Wizardly spells!

Post  Leave well enough alone on Fri Jan 27, 2012 8:52 pm

These spells are written in order learned, and some are limited to certain parts of the Wizard class and it's subclasses. I am thinking about a level system based on 50 for the sake of not going with the typical flow of 100.

Level:

1 Flame Burst
2 Wind Blast
3 Frost Blast
4 Gravity Ball
5 Magical Flare
6 NA
7 Flame Bomb
8 NA
9 Frost Bomb
10 Gravity Bomb
11 "Disapparate" enhancer D*
12 Wind Bomb
13 Magical Blast
14 NA
15 NA
16 Frost Cannon
17 Wind Cannon
18 Flame Cannon
19 Gravity Cannon
20 NA
21 "Disapparate" Enhancer C
22 NA
23 NA
24 Magical Bomb
25 NA
26 NA
27 Frost Cataclysm
28 NA
29 NA
30 Gravity Cataclysm
31 "Disapparate" Enhancer B
32 NA
33 NA
34 Flame Cataclysm
35 NA
36 NA
37 Wind Cataclysm
38 NA
39 NA
40 Magical Breaker
41 "Disapparate" Enhancer A
42 NA
43 Firestorm Breaker
44 Frozen Breaker
45 Lightning Breaker
46 Polarity Breaker
47 NA
48 NA
49 NA
50 Arcane Annihilation

*This brings me to the next topic. I feel that the offensive spell casting classes should have a level based ability to completely avoid damage. This would be determined much like a critical hit, and is similar to the Bastion's Critical Block ability (Oohh, foreshadowing!). As the level of the Spellcaster increases, the rate for "Disapparation" will increase.

Damage avoiding? We need to find a good way to balance this, otherwise the casters would become very good tanks. Scripting this ability would be easy to do.

Oh, baby, you rolled a critical...

It would be rarer at lower levels. Since I doubt we're doing a back-row-front-row set up, I think this might be necessary lower levels. Ester is starting out with little defense, she's an older Ealiafae woman, after all.

EDIT: Perhaps a remedy to preventing Mage-tanks would be to make Ranged attacks impossible to dodge using the ability?

The idea is good but it has to be thought with the fact that most casters hag low health and defence and if boy that how about the stronger a spell that some of the damage it does is bounced back on the caster, and Wat's with all the NAs?

An NA stands for nothing learned at that level, leaving it available for stat bonuses or other things that we may want to implement in the future.

Earth isn't an offensive element, so any earth type spells are typically for healing. All of the other spells are based around the manipulation of energy, (Subtraction or addition of it in a system.) As a rule, "Unholy" and "Holy" are only words with no real basis. Remember, a Wizard is not a holy man, he has no power over what those consider "holy" or "unholy", he is a wielder of an uncaring force; neutral energy.

What is light without darkness? That's the main reason I'm avoiding them. They aren't elements, they're abstractions.
